Need help editing smb.conf
For ease of organization, put all computers in the same Workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, Computer Name tab. E. Create shares as desired. XP Home does not permit sharing of users' home directories (My Documents) or Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories.

Can Someone tell me why I can't write to my SMB share?
My user is an Admin, and I can only write to the folders if I connect to the share using the UNC \\Server\e$ If I connect to \\Server\E from my workstation I can't Write to folders. What have I done wrong or what should I be looking for?? I didn't have this problem before on my old SBS 2003 server. Thanks!

Still can't network Linux and Windows - additional info
For some reason though I can't write to it. Samba problem
The problem with copying all your files to all machines is that Macs can't write to NTFS (contact Bill Gates and complain) and WinBoxes can't write to HFS+ without 3rd party You could set up some kind of network share based on a large NAS drive; backing up over the network doesn't care what the file system is.

If you delete the c$ share it wuill be recreated on the next boot. Best option is to add a new share to the c: drive and assign that user you want permissions to it. I came up with the following smb.conf file and Samba works, except that from NT I don't have write access to my home directory on Solaris. Any ideas? You also get the benefit of having workgroup tasks and such that users are responsible for. Basically, your suspicions that this is being done wrong are correct and they Like FP complaining because it can't write a file somewhere. Or is it then just a matter of changing each developer to point FP to their own

Well if that web server was part of your network, and you could browse to a shared folder through windows workgroup or windows networking, then in fact you could open up the I'm sure in your small office network allows each other to share files. Samba OK, But...I can't write to the drive.
Put simply, you can't write software for Windows XP just because you own an XP machine. You have to pay more to write software. In fact, you aren't even allowed to You can't have 3 people share a PC if they are employees. This would constitute hosting services, therefore they would be in violation of the EULA.

LPH van Belle lvbe...@bazuin.nl linux samba make sure your pcname resolving works, as i can see sofar, i think thats your problem. Setup a Dynamic DNS on the PDC. People with mapped shares working for +1 year don't have connection problems. So most of the time it seems to work fine.

writing files to smbmounted mountpoint as user -not root
According to all the guides I read, this should be fairly easy really, but I've done nothing else for the last week and it still doesn't work the way the manual says it should!
