Both
Windows and Mac clients can access this server shares with their AD credentials. No problem. Here is the issue. We are a school and would like to use I think the problem is that Workgroup Manager can't write the settings changes to AD. Does anybody have any ideas as to what I can do to get Workgroup

Various network problems
There are many possible causes of this problem, ranging from one or more Samba daemons not running to an incorrect workgroup specification in smb.conf. The problem is that I can't write files to the mount because the permissions are all for root. I can't run smbmount as user(luke) and I can't change the

Samba 2.2.8 doesn't allow to write to group share
No, my intention is to run it as a workgroup, not domain, but this did the trick. However, now I'm seeing that I can't write to the Linux shares from the Windows box, can only read them, and just changing the Linux permissions (via chmod) does NOT solve this...the saga is not over yet!

Access Database on Web Server
I really annoys me that I can't write reliably to an NTFS drive. I've always liked NTFS/HPFS and wish my system (Reiser) could write to NTFS. or the dedicated XP box downstairs (or for that matter my wifes OSX box), SAMBA to the rescue, send it across the wire/wireless, all in the same workgroup.

WebOffers Newsletter Issue #2 - (5) Write for ...
Which share or shares can you not connect to? With what operating system ? Do other users have the same problem on the same machine or is the problem restricted However I still can't write anything on to the server. I get an error message saying that the network resource is no longer available. Any ideas there?

Accessing more than one share on server.
Here is part of my setup. workgroup = WORKGROUP comment = Calsera Samba Server printing = LPRNG printcap name = /etc/printcap load printers = yes share If I try to install any of the other printers, they install fine, but when I try to print, it fails, and I think it's because I can't write to the directory.

file permissions and smbmount
If not, how do you share files between the native installation and the VM ? You mount the native Windows system to a mount point on your Linux system....then the VM sees it through a Samba I can't map to a subdirectory (where my original windows is a mount piont called "/win".....but I just can't write to them.

I'm baffled??!!
I removed all the workstations from the domain, and joined the "WorkGroup" workgroup. I then restarted, then ran the ConnectComputer Wizard. My documents re-direct worked great. All users can read/write to their my documents folder which is stored on the server. It is just the shares that I have created,

Need help, users can't write to shares
... mounted a Win share, but as I remember I had trouble with share-level access, instead having to choose user-level access and placing the workgroup name from The problem I have is that what ever I do with it, chown, chmod, chgrp I can't seem to make it writeable through samba; the Samba users cannot write to

VMWare - It's GOOD!
Change the computer name to "whatever" and then join the PC to the workgroup "WORKGROUP" 2. Restart the computer and log on locally as the administrator 3. Can they see the shares but not write to them or can they not even browse to the Company folder. If it is that they can't write to them the problem is that

XSI crashes on startup when updating a workgroup
You want to: 1. network your computers (set up your two stand-alone computers into a local area network) 2. share an internet connection between them 3. play I can't write a whole book here, but I will be writing quite a bit. ----- You will need a hub, unless you have an extra nic (network interconnect card) in

Computer question (that has nothing to do with A-camp)
There's also a regular Network Setup Wizard, which can't write a USB drive and can't run on Windows 2000. Configure the Windows 2000 network settings manually. It isn't strictly necessary, but assigning the same workgroup name to all computers makes it easier to find other computers on the network.

Doing the "Samba La Bamba"
I think it's almost working, but I get an authentication prompt every time I try to connect to samba from a windows client, and no matter what I enter I can't authenticate to see the shares. The main documentation I've been using is Sun's guide to setting up Samba: http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/819-3063/819-3063.pdf,

About the samba share

users can't make files
I setup two shares under a folder called "Shared Folders" that isn't shared and I haven't messed with the permissions on it. (using filesvr.msc) I added the usernames w/ the right passwords to users and groups because this is a workgroup level setup. I disconnected the current drive mappings on the win98 clients

PDC: random problems, especially NETLOGON script not ...
I have narrowed down the problem a bit though, seems users can't write to a share that is not their primary group. For example: Bob's primary group is Bob and secondary group is Sally. Thanks. As usual.. Vista-XP networking (Can't find answer in other posts)
If Samba can't find the new new object to modify then that is the problem. We have a Samba LDAP PDC and joining machines and adding users works fine. Samba and ADS authentication - can't change file ...
Install Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks in the Network Control Panel (make sure you use the same workgroup name as Samba is using).
